ss284 form

What’s the SS284 form for? The SS284 form in Australia is known as the Relationship Details form. It is used to provide information about your living arrangements to Services Australia so they can accurately assess your eligibility for income support payments.

In Australia, families facing financial hardship can access valuable support through a range of income support payments. These payments are designed to ensure families have the resources they need to cover essential living costs, such as food, housing, and healthcare, while also promoting their well-being and long-term independence.

Types of Family Income Estimate Support Payments

The Australian government offers a lot of benefits to families in the country to help them keep up with their living costs. Families would receive income support payments or subsidies such as:

  • Parenting Payment. This payment provides financial assistance to the primary caregiver of a young child (up to 16 years old).
  • Family Tax Benefit. This payment consists of two parts: Part A is available to all families with children, while Part B provides additional support to low-income families or those with a single parent.
  • Additional Child Care Subsidy. This subsidy helps families with the cost of childcare, making it more affordable for parents to work or study.

Why Do You Need to Submit the SS284 Form?

This form in Australia is used to provide as much detail of living arrangements to assess whether to pay an individual as a single person or as a member of a couple. Additionally, both individuals involved in the living arrangements need to complete the form.

Moreover, the form is used to assess the correct entitlement to payment at either the single or partnered rate. You can use this form when:

  • You are claiming or receiving income support payments.
  • Your living arrangements have changed.
  • Services Australia requests information about your living arrangements.

How Does Services Australia Assess Your Relationship?

There are five factors in which the Services Australia will base the assessment for your relationship in relation to the computation of your income support payment from the government:

  1. Financial arrangements
  2. Nature of the household
  3. Social aspects of the relationship
  4. Sexual relationship
  5. Nature of commitment.

Furthermore, for Services Australia to give you your income support payments correctly, you need to enter the correct information in the form. Furthermore, you have to include if you have a partner and you are:

  • Married
  • In a registered relationship or
  • In a de facto relationship.

Also, you must include in the form:

  • the complete personal details of your partner
  • indicate if you are experiencing family or domestic violence
  • report  any relationship changes
  • if you are separated with your ex-partner but still live together
  • if you have relationship safety concerns.

If there are changes, keep in mind that you’ll have to report it to Services Australia because if you won’t do so, they may pay you the wrong amount and then you’ll have to return the money. Moreover, you may also spend for other penalties.
