How To Pay Your Spouse Visa Cost?
There are different ways to pay your spouse visa cost, particularly your Australian partner visa application fee. But three things you should always keep in mind when paying for visa applications are:
- Before you pay, let your financial institution know that you are making a payment to us. They might refuse your payment if you don’t.
- You may also be required by your financial institution to pay additional fees or currency conversion expenses.
- Every year on January 1st and July 1st, the DHA sets the foreign exchange rates that are valid for six months. This exchange rate will determine how much your partner visa application will cost in your home currency.

Spouse Visa Cost: Request a Refund
In order for the DHA to evaluate your application, you must pay a visa application charge (VAC), sponsorship/nomination fee, or citizenship application fee. You will not receive a refund for these simply because your sponsorship, nomination, or application was turned down or not accepted.
Generally speaking, the DHA will only refund your VAC under specific conditions, such as when:
- When the application was submitted, it was superfluous.
- The Department made a mistake.
- The candidate passed away.
- The nomination or sponsorship didn’t work out.
- Before a decision is made, the application, which was made due to an error by the applicant, is withdrawn in writing.
If you hold or held a Partner visa, the DHA may possibly refund your spouse visa cost. However, VAC refunds are not available if:
- The Minister cancels your Partner visa (unless you have requested for it to be cancelled) or
- You have informed the Department that you are single and will not be applying for a Partner visa, either through you or your sponsor.
REQUIRED: Form 1424 – Refund Request
For Prospective Marriage Visa, refunds are not available in the following situations:
- The Minister revoked your visa for prospective marriage, unless you specifically asked for it to be revoked.
- Because you obtained a Prospective Marriage visa, you had filed an application for a Partner (subclass 801) visa and paid a lower VAC.
- You or your sponsor informed the Department that you had no intention of getting married at the time your visa expired.
