So you’ve stumbled across the Missing Family Pictures blog.
And now you’re probably wondering, what’s this about.
How can this help me? Will it be too confusing? Is reading even the next paragraph going to be a colossal waste of my time? Would tabbing out to Facebook be a preferable alternative?
Before we answer any of these questions, it’s probably a good idea to understand what this blog is about, and who it’s written for.
In short, if you are in a happy marriage, can’t imagine anyone else you’d rather spend the rest of your life with, don’t have children, and go on a romantic vacation with your partner every couple of months, as your work schedule allows, or perhaps aren’t even old enough to have a family yet, this blog isn’t for you.
On the other hand, if you are at a different stage of your life, you’re a busy nurse figuring out if you should drop your children off at your ex-partner’s place tonight for your night shift, but completely filled to the brim with anxiety as you pull out of your driveway because your ex-partner mentioned in passing over the telephone that he might just be moving to Adelaide in two weeks time (and you and the children currently live in Sydney), then I believe we may be of assistance, and that you just might be the right audience.
The Intro…
Let me give you a brief introduction of what we do.
We are a small but dedicated group of lawyers who practice family law and the Missing Family Pictures blog is essentially a family law blog.
Let’s be honest, it’s not initially going to appear to be that different to some other family law blogs, but it will have one major difference, the difference being that it’s written totally with you, the non-lawyer, in mind.
What we’ll be covering are common topics that we get asked time and time again.
Things like:
- Do I need a “prenup” if I’m going to get married? Yes, you will notice that I put the word “prenup” in quotation marks. That’s because they are called Binding Financial Agreements in Australia. But everyone will refer to it as a prenup anyways. Even the lawyers.
- Will I get the chance to see my children if my partner decides to move away after the marriage?
- How much money will I really walk away with if I get a divorce.
- How expensive is a divorce really?
What this means is that as much I can, I’ll try not to use legal jargon. If you catch me doing it, kindly leave a comment or send me an email telling me that you simply didn’t understand what I’ve written, and I’ll get back to you to clarify what I meant.
Our Aims
We hope to be repository of very useful and practical information about the family law system as well as to provide you with tidbits of information, little nuggets of wisdom if you will, from personal experience, which might assist you as you navigate through some of life’s most challenging experiences. The marriage and the divorce.
I would not wish the latter of the two experiences upon anyone, and hope with great sincerity that you are able to work things out with your partner.
Divorce is also most likely going to be one of the most financial and emotional draining experiences anyone will ever go through in life. Legal fees alone might cost you the price of a brand new Audi R8. No I’m not kidding.
Not to mention you might have to sell your house you’ve been living in for the past 17 years, the business you’ve been running for almost a decade, and to top it off, you might not be able to see your kids for an entire year or more.
We’re going to help prevent all of that and give you the tools you need to prepare for the worst.
We understand that good advice and quality information is also pretty hard to come by nowadays without paying an arm and a leg.
Be careful though. Although your best friend means well, he or she probably doesn’t fully understand the entire picture and might just give you the sort of advice which may harm your case.
Hopefully, what we’ll be writing about will give you greater insight into the divorce/separation process and how it all works, so you can always make informed decisions.
That’s it for now. Stay tuned for more.
